THE FEUERKOGEL AS A DESTINATION

Feuerkogel and hiking are two words that are inseparably linked with mountain sports in Upper Austria. After all, the majestic local mountain in Ebensee is home to wonderful routes for every level of fitness. From the municipality, a cable car takes you comfortably to the summit of the massif. There you can enjoy a magnificent view of the valley and a fortifying snack.

Before you arrive, bear in mind that it is usually windy at 1,592 metres above sea level. Warm clothing should therefore be part of your hiking holiday Salzkammergut equipment, regardless of the season.

Traunstein

 GUARDIAN OF THE SALZKAMMERGUT

The rugged Traunstein is found on the eastern shore of the lake of the same name. At 1,691 m. above sea level, it is higher than its neighbour, the Feuerkogel. This makes the vegetation of the majestic mountains noticeably different, which also applies to the fauna. Hiking on the Traunstein includes not only the enjoyment of magnificent flora but also various choices between appealing routes.

The easy climbs are ideal for families or novice hikers. The more challenging ascents are recommended exclusively for experienced summit strikers. Unlike the easy trails, these are not secured. Also, the ascent to the mountain top leads through steep slopes and uneven scree.

Heavenly Treasures

NEAR THE HELL MOUNTAINS

A trip to the Langbath lakes is not to be missed. These can be found about eight kilometres west of the municipality. The front Langbathsee is extremely popular among bathers due to its water quality. The rear lake, on the other hand, invites you to take an extended rest. The best way to explore these natural oases is on foot or by bike.

At the foot of the Tote Gebirge you can explore another natural treasure of Upper Austria. This enchants in the form of a mountain lake. Emperor Franz Joseph I was already inspired by its face. It is obvious why the famous monarch built his hunting lodge a few minutes away from the lake. Let yourself be enchanted by the royal charm before you take the plunge into the cool waters of the lake.

The bright beauty

OF THE ERLAKOGEL

The Erlakogel is the second highest mountain in the immediate vicinity of the Traunsee. It bears the nickname Sleeping Greek, which can be traced back to a popularly quoted legend: a noblewoman is said to have been turned into a rock by the grim King Dachstein. The curse, which lasts to this day, punishes the lady for her love affair with Traunstein, who is banished to the edge of the kingdom.

The officially marked hiking trail is recommended for the ascent and descent of the Erlakogel. It is secured, so that less experienced sportsmen can also enjoy unforgettable outdoor moments in the shade of the sleeping beauty.
